What matters most when crafting a new space?

We always speak to capturing the clients’ wishes and desires for the space. We see this typically translate into creating an aesthetic that resonates with the clients’ likes and taste. I always want to re-emphasize that we need to stay diligent on the adage “Form Follows Function.” One of the leading reasons we see clients want to change their space is because it doesn’t function for their family or life flow. We all respond to what pleases our eye but must never lose sight that by focusing on the eye only we could create disappointment when the project is over because some of the earliest goals for increased functionality of the space become overwhelmed by what our eye finds pleasing.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

As most of my colleagues will attest, gardening is a second or overlaying passion. The horticultural world caught my attention nearly 30 years ago, and whether it’s weeding, propagating a new plant, or harvesting a bounty from the veg garden brings me great satisfaction. Being outdoors, collecting plants and creating a garden, much like creating indoor spaces is a creative activity to make a space or area special to oneself.
