I am a believer in the design principle of form follows function: a rationally designed space may not necessarily be beautiful, but no space can be beautiful that is not rationally designed. Breaking down a design to focus first on optimizing the functionality and then bringing the aesthetic up to that level is the key to a great design. Designing a space is a puzzle that must meet the functional needs of a homeowner as well as their aesthetics.
